The book of Hebrews ties together the Old Testament and the New Testament. Some scholars have described Hebrews as a fifth gospel. An overview study of the text will occur with attention to the theological themes, structure, historical setting, and interpretation of selected portions. Attention will also be given to Hebrews significant relationship to the Old Testament. The book of Hebrews is unique among the epistles and provides a rich description of Jesus Christ from a different perspective than the Gospels.
This course will provide an understanding of the content of each of the chapters in the book along with the various themes and motifs. Example sermons for the chapters will also be provided. The historical context and background will be discussed along with the many Jewish temple practices described in the book. Students will be able to teach and inspire believers and non-believers to believe more fully in the deity of Jesus following the course. The Christian confession of faith is to believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that Jesus is Lord. The theme of the Hebrews is Jesus Christ is the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever. This course will provide in-depth teaching to confirm the confession of disciples. Robert and John are currently writing a book on Hebrews. Grady is a church consultant and professor.
This course is part of the Certificate in Practical Evangelism from the LA School of Missions and Ministry which is a three-year program. An Advanced Certificate in other specialties including Campus Ministry, Youth and Family Ministry, Missions, Pastoral Counseling, Old Testament, New Testament, Church Leadership, Church Growth, Discipleship, Hebrew, Greek and Spiritual Formation are also being developed.
Course Dates, Times and Location: The course will be held on Friday and Saturday on September 14-15, Friday & Saturday at the Lighthouse Building, 3508 East Temple Way, West Covina, CA 91791 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm both days.
Cost: The cost for the course will be $200/student for tuition. Text books will be required and purchased by the students. Housing and transportation will be the responsibility of the student.
